When the crack is wide or develops, and even the durability of the structure is endangered, so it needs to be repaired. So what happens to the concrete interface before the crack is repaired? Today, we will talk to you about how to repair concrete cracks.
In addition to cleaning and trimming of the original structure and components, the interface shall be treated in accordance with the following provisions.
1. Polishing the surface of the original components
Along the crack, a bamboo nail or other nail is inserted as a temporary sign in the crack, and the nail pitch is such that the crack can be found after grinding. Then, the surface of the original component in the range of 100 mm on both sides of the crack is smoothed by a sand blasting machine or a grinder until a solid new surface of the aggregate is exposed, and after cleaning without oil stains and dirt, it is cleaned by a compressed air machine or a vacuum cleaner.
2. Chiseling
When the design requires the grooving along the crack direction, it shall be scribed, cut, trimmed and cleaned according to the section form (such as V-shaped, U-shaped, etc.) and dimensions specified in the construction drawing. If the design does not define a trough shape, it should be chiseled into a U-shaped groove. If the surface of the original component is not flat, it should be cut along the crack to form a smooth curved surface that is easy to be closed continuously. There must be no local protrusion or height difference.
3. Adhesive surface treatment
The bonding surface treatment in the crack cavity shall be carried out in accordance with the provisions of the product instruction manual or under the guidance of a professional engineer appointed by the product manufacturer.
4. Selection of crack repairing glue
Ordinary type crack repairing glue, as it is poorly cured under high humidity conditions, the moisture content of the bonding surface in the crack cavity of the original component must be controlled according to the requirements of the product specification. Otherwise, it will leave hidden dangers to the crack repair project.
