Causes of cracks in concrete structures of industrial plants and methods of reinforcement

Oct. 08, 2018

Cracks in the concrete structure of the factory building are common phenomena, which not only affect the appearance, but also the signs of safety hazards in the plant structure. Therefore, troubleshooting and repairing cracks is also the focus of industrial plants to prevent and control building hazards. When the structural cracks of the plant have endangered safety, structural reinforcement shall be carried out in time.

What are the causes of cracks in the concrete structure of industrial plants?

1. Cracks formed by external loads

The concrete structure of the factory building is subjected to external loads (dynamic load, static load and the actual working state of many structures exceeds the stress generated by the design), and the crack generated beyond its own tensile strength is called load crack. Especially in industrial plants with crane beams, this crack is more likely to occur.

2.The crack caused by structural deformation

Cracks due to factors such as temperature, concrete shrinkage, expansion, uneven settlement, etc. The concrete structure has the property of thermal expansion and contraction. The structure is deformed when subjected to temperature, and when the deformation is restrained, the restraint stress generated exceeds the tensile strength of the concrete, a temperature crack occurs. During the hardening process of concrete, the internal temperature rises due to the hydration heat of the cement, and the water dispersion loses too fast to cause shrinkage and cracks. This dry shrinkage crack also belongs to temperature cracks.

3. Crack caused by external load and structural secondary stress

The secondary stress refers to the external load stress that is not normally calculated. For example, the support end of the truss is calculated according to the joint node, but the actual concrete roof truss has bending and shearing force; the soil quality of the foundation is large; the bearing layer of the concrete structure is located in the soft soil layer; the plane structure of the building is complex, in the horizontal and vertical units, the intersection is densely populated; the overall stiffness of the building is poor, and the asymmetry of stiffness can cause uneven settlement, resulting in cracks in the concrete structure.

In view of the above-mentioned reinforced concrete structural cracks, structural reinforcement measures can be taken to ensure the subsequent safe use of the building structure. According to the "Technical Specifications for Concrete Structure Reinforcement", the concrete structure reinforcement methods include: increase section reinforcement method, and outer steel reinforcement method, prestressing reinforcement method, changing structure force transmission reinforcement method, external bonding steel reinforcement method, carbon fiber cloth reinforcement method, etc. If you have any questions about these reinforcement methods, you can call Nanjing Mankate professional technical consultant.
