The dam in Laos collapsed. What should be noted when the dam is reinforced with carbon fiber cloth?

Jul. 31, 2018

According to the Lao National News Agency, Kate (KPL), a hydroelectric dam in Azov province in southeastern Laos collapsed. The dam released 5 billion cubic meters of water. According to reports, the incident occurred on Monday (23rd) local time. Many people have been killed and hundreds of people have disappeared. After the dam collapsed, six nearby villages suffered from flash floods, and over 6,600 people were left homeless due to flooding. The dam is generally built in a long and narrow place with high and low differences. Because of the large amount of water collected, it generates huge potential energy, which is a test for the firmness of the dam. If it happens to encounter the rainy season, a large amount of precipitation may further test the strength of the dam. If the vulnerable parts are neglected to manage, and fine lines and cracks are generated, it is easy to damage the dam's body. In the reinforcement of reservoir dams, the grouting glue is only suitable for some small cracks. If a large crack is encountered or the entire dam structure is reinforced, the underwater carbon fiber cloth reinforcement method will be used.

Construction method of underwater carbon fiber cloth and underwater carbon fiber glue:

1. Base treatment: clean the surface of the sludge and moss, and then use a sander to treat the loose surface until a solid base is exposed.

2. Leveling the base surface: Mix the underwater special leveling glue according to the weight ratio of component A: component B = 2:1 to completely uniform, and scrape the leveling glue to the concrete surface with a file, each time the thickness repaired should not exceed 10 mm. If you need to repair the thicker layer, you can apply the leveling glue in batches, and then apply the next layer after 24 hours.

3. Unloading: According to the drawing requirements, the carbon fiber cloth to be pasted is cut into sizes and laid flat on a double-layer plastic film with a film thickness of about 10 wires.

4. Mixing: Weigh the underwater carbon fiber impregnated glue into the open container according to the weight ratio of A:B=3:1, and stir at a low speed of no more than 300 rpm until the color and shape are completely uniform. Make sure all parts can be contacted during the mixing process for optimum mixing.

5. Pre-impregnated carbon fiber cloth: The adjusted impregnating glue is repeatedly crushed along the fiber direction to the carbon fiber bristle. It is necessary to ensure that one side of the carbon fiber cloth is slightly thicker and the other layer of the double-layer film is spread on the carbon fiber cloth, and then wrap the carbon fiber cloth in a small roll along the direction of the carbon wire for use.

6. Paste carbon fiber cloth: The construction personnel dives to the bonding position to unwind the rolled carbon fiber cloth, tear the film with a slightly thicker glue layer, and paste the carbon fiber cloth from the one end to the other end to the reinforcing base surface. The squeegee is scraped repeatedly according to the direction of the carbon filament so that the carbon fiber cloth is straight, extended, and free of bubbles, and the immersion glue penetrates completely into the concrete surface layer. After peeling off the cloth, peel off the other film 24 hours later.
